Mike Locke’s Three Peaks Challenge attempt was supported by the presence of a 7 metre climbing wall courtesy of Mont Blanc Climbing Walls and by donations from the Parish Council and Barclays. There was a constant queue of young people eager to demonstrate how they are following in Chris Bonnington’s footsteps and not a few grown-ups were also tempted. Mike undertook the challenge about 2 weeks after Downley Day and we can report he was successful in completing all 3 climbs (Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon) in 23 hours and 35 minutes and raised about ten thousand pounds for the Maplewood Hydrotherapy pool appeal. |

The marquee became very popular during the frequent showers than punctuated the afternoon. Were we downhearted? - not at all! |

We were assured that flying knives parading through the crowds would be perfectly safe! I for one kept my distance! |

The Country Dancing team from the School provided a more physical display. This was followed by the line-dancing ladies with both a display and a tutorial for those who wished to join in. |

Finally
the Steve Cowley Martial Arts display team demonstrated not only the
physical prowess and skills in Tai-jutsu, but also emphasised the
self-discipline they must achieve as part of the art. |
The Common Preservation Society provided an opportunity for small children to play with extremely sharp chisels in the name of turning a chair leg on a pole lathe. Be a "Bodger" for the afternoon. |

The arena events featured quite a musical theme with a performance from the Downley School orchestra conducted by Guy Button, and demonstrated the strong emphasis on instrumentals at the school. |
In addition, the Wycombe and Great Kingshill Band also performed a selection of popular music. The band’s members consist of late starters or those returning to music after a long absence. They welcome all comers and meet at the Music Centre at Millbrook School on Friday evenings. |
